One of the principal subjects in the late works of Zolita Sverdlove was the cityscapes of Los Angeles and environs. Two recurrent themes within this genre were (1) the freeways that play the role of arteries in the city body, and (2) the hills of the city with billowing clouds towering above them. She was a great colorist impressionist and her bold use of color accentuates her strong draughtmanship in her paintings. She was not concerned with the explicit details down to the minutiae of the subject. Instead, she captured the essence of the landscape with boldness and verve.
